Thoughtful. Candid. Informative.
Today's program features a conversation with Jack Turney, about what prompted him to go into the realm of mental health services and how that journey is unfolding. He talks about his life as a child at home, his growth in awareness of what's important in a life, and why he chose the direction he's chosen. We touch on mental health analysis, treatments, and other considerations of the past, the present, and what the future of this field may hold.
Thoughtful. Candid. Informative. Our conversation today welcomes Dr. Joaquin Acosta for a conversation about the independent pharmacy movement in our country. As the owner of Pharmtrue - a local independent pharmacy situated in downtown Las Cruces, Dr. Acosta defines some of the realities of the current pharmacy industry. We explore many of the challenges in play with insurance companies and drug companies, that determine who gets what kind of services in the evolving realm of U.S. healthcare.
Independent pharmacies provide much that's not possible for giant corporate pharmacies to offer. Neighborhood pharmacies, once common in our country, are facing an uphill struggle to maintain their place in our communities and our healthcare systems, with services and attention that may otherwise be disappearing. Dr. Acosta shares an informative and insightful hour with us on a topic that affects us all. Pharmtrue Las Cruces Your Downtown Las Cruces Pharmacy - Health, Wellness, and Community Care Here’s to the deep state … or, what we used to refer to as the federal government. With little fanfare, the Federal Trade Commission has leveled the playing field for millions of workers.
The FTC freed an estimated 30 million employees who are now bound to their current employers through non-compete clauses. On a 3-2 vote, the commission found that the clauses are an unfair method of competition and therefore a violation of Section 5 of the FTC Act which prohibits “unfair or deceptive acts or practices in or affecting commerce.” Nancy and Walt talked with with House District 35 representative Angelica Rubio, who is running as the incumbent against challenger Gabriel Duran Jr. in the Democratic primary. (Mr. Duran was invited to appear but wasn't able to attend.)
Local resident Jim Hoerst, an advocate for the separation of church and state, discusses his opposition to the county government’s annual observation of National Prayer Day.
Lisa Lucca talks with Verna, the owner of the Las Cruces mystical shop Indigo Mermaid, about all things mystical and the opening of her new second location in Mesilla. Lisa Lucca talks with Las Cruces, NM artist, Paul Maxwell, about shifting from engineering to art, capturing the beauty of New Mexico, Europe, and Asia in different mediums. While mental illness isn’t a crime, it’s also not a permission slip to excuse crimes.
Yet that’s what happens in New Mexico once a defendant has been found by the court to be mentally incompetent to stand trial. It’s a “Get Out of Jail Free” card for future crimes. That freedom from accountability has allowed a small number of offenders to act with increasing brazenness against both property owners and police. Longtime local journalist Mike Cook will discuss his lengthy career covering the people and events of Las Cruces.
